Built in the 1930s, and later remodeled by residential architect Russell Buchanan, this home is thought to be one of the oldest modern homes in Dallas’ Highland Park. The large art studio you see pictured here was a later addition made to overlook the pool and smaller covered area, both of which we designed and built. The site is heavily wooded, and it was important that we preserve and enhance the naturally existing shade. The owners wanted a structure that would be water-tight when it rained but also open enough to enjoy the night sky since they spend a lot of time entertaining around the pool.
Our challenge was to seamlessly integrate the new cabana and pool design with the modern details and visual language of the existing art studio. All while making sure everything functioned exactly the way the client envisioned. From design to build, the project was completed in just five months.
