This unique two-bedroom bungalow is built on the side of a hill in the prestigious Bluffview neighborhood of Dallas. The owners charged our firm with creating a signature exterior living space nestled against an adjacent forest. The sense of place was created with this sunken fire pit with banquette seating against a curvilinear stone wall. The curvilinear motif continues through the flagstone floors, kitchen, and garden areas. The effect is a sense of solitude ensconced in nature.
One of the interesting design and construction considerations was the use of the banquette wall that doubled as a retaining wall, provided support at the rear of the property, which sat at the edge of a sheer rock wall.
Drainage was an important consideration because the home was located at the bottom of a hill on Watauga, and the Bluffview area drainage terminated there. Our landscape architects created a drainage scheme that allowed the water to move effectively with no disruption in the peaceful environment of the neighborhood.
The project took about nine months to complete the swimming pool, decks, gardens, and drainage.
